When a business stops growing, it's usually stuck
Sales have been flat for two or three years. You work harder than ever, but the numbers barely move. It's tempting to blame the economy, the competition or the weather.
Usually the business is stuck on something specific. Maybe customers can't tell you apart from the competition, so you compete on price. Maybe sales come in waves because nobody follows up with past customers. Maybe you're doing every job yourself, so nothing strategic ever gets done.
Think of a car stuck in the snow. Pressing the gas harder only digs the wheels in deeper. You need to know which wheel is stuck, and then you need the right kind of push. GrowYourBiz Coach finds the stuck wheel.
Why I built this
A well-known small business growth method says most stalled businesses are stuck on one or more of 9 common sticking points, and that each one has a proven way out.
I boiled the method down into playbooks: the signs of each sticking point, the questions that uncover it, the fixes step by step, the simple math behind them, and the mistakes owners make along the way. Then I gave all of that to an AI coach so you can use it on your own business. The coaching runs on Claude, Anthropic's AI.
The 9 sticking points
- Losing out to the competition. They may not be better. They may just market better.
- Not selling enough. To enough people, often enough.
- Sales that come in waves. Feast, then famine, with no way to plan.
- No time to think. Buried in busywork, with no real strategy.
- Costs eating the profits. Money comes in and goes right back out.
- Doing what everyone else does. Following the herd, even when it isn't working.
- Treated like a commodity. Customers only ask about price.
- Tired marketing. Same ads, same results, year after year.
- Doing it all yourself. No partners, no leverage, no help.
How the coach works
- Tell it what's going on. What you sell, to whom, roughly what your sales are, and what feels stuck. Rough answers are fine.
- It digs, one question at a time. Where do new customers come from? What is one customer worth to you over the years? When did you last contact a past customer? Not knowing is a finding too.
- It names your sticking points. The one to three that hold you back most, the fix for each with the math, and the order to do them in, cheapest and fastest first.
- It helps you do the work. Ask it to draft the offer, the headline, the referral script or the partner pitch, then keep refining it together.
What a session looks like
In my own testing I played a landscaping company owner: about $600K a year, flat for three years, with almost all work coming from word of mouth and a yard sign.
The coach asked one question at a time. First: what happens after a job is finished? When I said some clients had been with me 8 years and had never been offered anything else, it called them an untapped asset, because the cheapest customer to sell to is one who already trusts you. Then it asked how many clients I had and how often they bought, so it could work out what one client is worth over the years.
Why I ask for your email
Two reasons. First, the coach saves every conversation so you can pick it up later, on your phone or another computer. Your email is how it knows which conversations are yours, and the 6-digit code keeps anyone else from opening them.
Second, I might send you a note now and then about other free tools I build. I will never sell or give your email to anyone else.
Questions people ask
Is it really free?
Yes. There's a limit of 100 messages per person per day so nobody runs up the bill, and your work is always saved.
What kind of business is this for?
Any small or medium business that sells to customers or other businesses: services, shops, trades, professional practices, online sellers. The ideas work across industries.
What if I don't know my numbers?
That's very common, and the coach will help you estimate them. Knowing what one customer is worth to you over time is often the first thing to work out.
Is this legal or financial advice?
No. It's general business coaching. For legal, tax, accounting or investment questions, talk to a qualified professional.
What happens to what I type?
Your messages go to Anthropic's Claude AI to write the replies, and your conversations are stored so you can come back to them. Delete a topic and it's gone for good.
Do I need to install anything?
No. It runs in your browser on a computer or phone.
